Tougyouan

Tougyouan was established in 1884 as a chapel to honor the spirit of Shinsaku Takasugi, a prominent figure of the Meiji Restoration.

The first head priestess was his beloved concubine, Ono, who dedicated her life to guarding Shinsaku’s grave at the chapel, later known as Baisho.

Tougyou Memorial Hall has a lot of furnishings and documents related to Shinsaku and the Kiheitai (Irregular Militia).
